This is a tough one to put a value on....
Obviously it wouldn't appear that their is an Australian trademark issue (presently), but if DMOZ ever wanted to launch geo local directories, they could probably get it off you given that it was registered to take advantage of their international brand, but them expanding internationally is unlikely anyway. So that's a minor drawback. I think the bigger draw back is that when you search for dmoz in google.com.au you get international results rather than Australian results, so if you developed it you'd be unlikely to rank for what would be a very competitive term. You are also unlikely to get type in traffic for it given that dmoz is a dot ORG domain and no one would think to type in dmoz.com.au for. Then of course there is the problem of if you did develop it what would you do with it? and what would the revenue source be? Finally it's only 480 exacts but it does have 3600 phrases. All in all I personally don't think it holds much value - but like I said at the start it's a bit of a weird one and there might be some people out there, maybe those in the internet marketing industry, would be willing to part with a couple of dollars to do something with it. My valuation - $XX |

Would be valued on the basis of PPC revenue only, maybe 6-12 months in my view. No company is ever likely to do anything serious with it because of legal issues.

haha, come on guys.
dmoz stands for digital media/marketing australia... ![]() I don't think dmoz.org has the right to claim it. 1. As you said they don't have tm here in Australia. 2. I will develop this site soon for Australian businesses, marketing directory is the first choice. 3. The keyword looks same, what a coincidence and of course great chances. ![]()

If you make the site a directory then I think you've blown any chance of claiming that you were not attempting to pass off or trade on the good name of DMOZ.

I'd be surprised if the "market" would offer that sort of figure. |

Obviously you think it has value because of DMOZ itself (which most peoples these days have no ideas exists). It really wouldn't matter what you make the site about, even if it's a business directory, it wouldn't gain any value just for being in the same niche as the real DMOZ (which is corrupt and the links are "devalued" these days [Matt Cutts]).
Rego fee. May as well rego any 4 letters. |

DMOZ would have to prove "intent" - almost impossible to prove, as a judge I believe Digital Media OZ, do you?
TM issues aside, and even with TM issues, the onus is on the complainer to prove intent - I like many have had letters ..... as the owners of TMname we have noticed you have registered ........................bla, bla, bla. The act of registering the name, solely - in itself, does not prove intent of any mis-use or wrongdoing. Making the name "live" is a different story somewhat - a domain name is absolutely useless until it is live in respect to TM infringement. So what sort of Digital Media AOBO??
