Was just looking over the recent sales page, and it looks like the March totals so far are over $50,000. Yikes! David, will this be NF's biggest month yet?

Still probably a drop in the bucket compared to the UK/US market (even proportionally speaking), but definitely seems to bode well for the future of domaining in Australia.

I think the numbers are not correct as I can't see ALL sales.

Italian and caps are the only 2 I remember and both are missing....I guess they are making much more.

Yes it has been a good month for us. It will be a record for $$$ amount & probably for volume too.

The aftermarket sales have been ticking along pretty well of late. Lots of volume which is the most important metric to see. Despite having less domains listed than late last year we are actually getting more activity thanks to more traffic & a better quality of domains.

Once the month has ended I'll do up some stats to show how things are moving along...

The Recent Domain Sales page only shows domains sold through Netfleet in our aftermarket. Domain snapper auctions do not feature as strictly they are not sales - they are new registrations.

I'll get a page and RSS feeds together though to display some figures. As we've only been running 3 weeks or so was hanging on a bit until we have enough data, but I guess now we do...

In my mind, WRT to the drops, I think that once the bidding for the dropped domain surpasses what I consider a nominal reg fee, let's put it at $50/$100, especially in an auction, then it I would personally class it as an 'aftermarket' sale.

Does that make sense?

reg fee is on top of final price so that does not matter.

drop sales are pretty much 100 % NET profit while listing sales attract only commissions....I think.

Strictly speaking they shouldn't count IMO. You aren't buying the domain in the drop auctions - what you're effectively doing is paying for the rights for another company to try and register the domain for you. It's more of a fee for service model.

Mind you, saying that I have seen some drop.com.au 'sales' reported at DNJournal so maybe Ron Jackson does treat them as aftermarket sales. George, can you clarify? If so I'd very much like to include some Snapper catches in my weekly report to them as well. Would be great to see every significant price paid for a .AU domain reported as it's great for the industry.

Yes, but though the 'journey' for the domain is different (expired vs resold) the 'destination' is the same - that being (ultimately) the end-user, who ultimately decides what the domain is worth (to them).

Only difference being in one market the domain has an owner (aftermarket), and in the other the domain is an orphan (drops). Naturally these factors will affect the $ of the domain.
