Default auDA to review Domain Renewal, Expiry and Deletion policies

Surprised no one has brought this up already.

Thoughts?

Yes it's interesting isn't it.

I suspect it's been raised as auDA have probably had a lot of calls from former domain owners who realise their domains have expired and been snapped up.

I am well aware of when my names are due for renewal , if i am too lazy to do this important part of my online activities i have no one else to blame but my self if i lose the name. Leave it as is i say we are already over regulated in australian domaining

We'll most registrars will send out a renewal notice via email... but what if the email bounces, the tech contact no longer works at the company etc.

Not everyone pays as much attention to their domain as we do on this forum.

Recently I asked someone at a company who I do consulting for "who manages your domains?" and they didn't know (Their answer we "me i guess", although they don't have any of the domain passwords nor are they listed as a contact person and wouldnt have the slightest clue what a WHOIS is). This was the only person in the company who is technically minded and they have 5 or so brand names well known worldwide. There would be plenty of SME's out their in similar situations.

For these reasons DDNS send snail mail and email renewal notices. We even phone customers who still haven't renewed just before they expire if required.

Wow - I didn't think any registrars did that. You should charge extra for the service...

I guess that's why our price is $65. We're on first name basis with many of our clients.

well you gotta love journalism , if george knows something we dont , half his luck, but i do think he is being put in the same basket as his former boss ? i knew george when he was seeking work in the industry and i do wonder how long you have to be in a industry to be known as always ... pushing the envelope ?? i would suggest he just hasn't been at the top of the domaining heap long enough to earn this title. Although if you do something different perhaps you stand out more i guess

Well spotted regarding the article
